Sand and Steel

A Family Tradition Forged in Iron

Blacksmithing runs deep in my family. My great-grandfather operated a blacksmith shop that also served as a Model A repair shop, and the anvil and hammer I use today once belonged to him. Each piece I forge carries forward not only traditional methods, but the tools and legacy passed down through generations.

About Sand and Steel

History

Founded in 2012, Sand and Steel is a traditional blacksmith shop rooted in historic craftsmanship. Prior to 2012, the shop was known as Liberty Forge. The name was changed to Sand and Steel to reflect the partnership of my wife and myself and what will be the shared foundation of our work.

My favorite items to forge are pipe tomahawks, with a strong focus on 18th-century pieces and historically accurate reproductions. Every piece is forged with respect for traditional methods, historical detail, and functional design.

Tradition, Craft, & Experience

Specializing in 18th-century and historically inspired ironwork, forged using traditional tools, methods, and patterns. With over thirty years of experience at the anvil, my work is rooted in time-tested techniques and a deep respect for historical accuracy.

In addition to forging, I have taught workshops and have served as an instructor and demonstrator at numerous conferences and events. Whether teaching or forging, my focus remains on preserving traditional skills while sharing practical knowledge with blacksmiths of all experience levels.
